Scotland is popular with students from all over the world. It is renowned for its high quality education system with many of its universities consistently ranked amongst the best in the world. Four out of the six of the UKs magnificent ancient universities are in Scotland.

Scotland with its historic and cosmopolitan cities & dramatic landscapes featuring mountains, coasts and lochs is an incredible place to live and study, particularly if you enjoy fresh air, nature and the outdoors. Scotland is also culturally rich & steeped in history- famed for its castles, architecture, festivals, art and world-famous whiskey.

Universities we visit in Edinburgh

The capital of Scotland is one of the most desirable places to live in the world. With a dormant volcano as its backdrop Edinburgh is known for its castles, magnificent historical buildings & cobbled streets. We visit two universities in Edinburgh including ones of Scotland’s four ancient universities.

The University of Edinburgh

The Uni-City University/41,000 students

Ranked 12^th in the UK & 22^nd in the world

A highly respected Russell Group University and at nearly 500 years old it is one of the UK’s ancient universities.

It has the oldest Department of English Literature in the UK and is known for its many scientific discoveries. Its College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine is reputed to be a world-leader in its field. They are also known for their social sciences, arts and humanities.

Heriot-Watt University

The Uni-Camus University/21,000 students

Ranking in the top half of the UK league tables.

They are based just outside of the city of Edinburgh

They are known to specialise in Business, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Fashion Textiles

Universities we visit in Glasgow

Glasgow is an affordable historic port city on the River Clyde in Scotland’s western Lowlands. It’s famed for its Victorian and art nouveau architecture and its history of shipbuilding. Today it is a national cultural hub as well as acclaimed museums, cafes, restaurants and a thriving music scene. It is one of the greenest cities in the UK with over 90 parks. It is also home to one of the four ancient universities of Scotland.

University of Glasgow

The Uni-City University/27,000 students

The University of Glasgow is a prestigious Russell group, one of the world’s top 100 universities and at nearly 600 years old its is one of Scotland’s four ancient universities. It is also are ranked in the top 20 universities in the world for sustainability.

It is home to Scotland’s supercomputer, where they research quantum technology. It is also home to the largest nano fabrication centre in Europe.

They are powerhouse in engineering & computer sciences. They also rank in the world top 100 for life sciences, arts, humanities, veterinary, social science, education and management to name a few

University of Strathclyde

The Uni-City University/23,000 students

A top third UK university and the 4^th best performing university in Scotland. The University of Strathclyde are a leading international university based in the centre of Scotland’s largest city-Glasgow.

Strathclyde offer a wide range of subjects, but their main focus is on technological and scientific subjects, They also have a triple accredited Business school and one of the largest and best equipped engineering faculties in Scotland.

Their culture is around flexibility and innovation & their facilities are world class. They prioritise industry links so that graduates are ready and valuable to the workplace as soon as they have completed their degree.

In terms of lifestyle they are based in the city centre, so there is lots to do. They have also recently invested in a brand-new state-of-the-art 31-million-pound sports centre.

University of Stirling

The Uni-Camus University/14,000 students

Known for being one of the most beautiful university campuses in the UK, they even have their own castle! The University of Stirling recently won a five-star rating for its facilities, which include a large prestigious art collection, cinema and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

They describe themselves as Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence and their sports union has over 50 sporting clubs.

Their top subject areas include communications and media, marketing, education, social policy, English, sport science, business and management, Iberian languages & accounting and finance.

University of Dundee

The Uni-City University/16,000 students

Respectfully ranked research-intensive University of Dundee is on the eastern side of Scotland in the vibrant city of Dundee which is close to the sea.

Students at Dundee report high levels of satisfaction and it has an excellent reputation for its teaching standards.

The University of Dundee has been named ‘top university in the UK for developing spinout businesses’ by leading industry analysis, beating traditional powerhouses such as Oxford, Cambridge.

The subjects they excel in are dentistry, medicine and art & design.

University of Aberdeen

The Uni-City University/14,000 students

Ranked 12^th in the UK, 2^nd in Scotland and 37^th in the world. It is a very well-respected historic place to study. At nearly 530 years old it is also one of the four ancient universities of Scotland.

Aberdeen is on the East coast and is the furthest north on our tour It is a unique student city with the Northern Lights sometimes being seen there.

Aberdeen’s medieval campus helped shape the modern world while its newer campus now leads in preventative healthcare.

Their top subjects include theology and religious studies, linguistics, drama dance and cinematics, biomedical science and anthropology.

Their campus also includes include Olympic standard sports facilities.

University of St Andrews

The Uni-City University/10,000 students

Ranked number 1 in Scotland and number 4 in the UK St Andrews is oldest and highest-ranking university in Scotland.

It is located on the East Coast in the seaside town of St Andrew’s which is famous for being ‘the home of golf’ and for having Royal alumni. It is the oldest of the four ancient universities of Scotland and the third-oldest university in the English-speaking world.

Its top subjects include, philosophy, classics, African and Middle Eastern studies, computer science, chemistry, psychology, anthropology, Geography & environmental sciences and physics and astronomy to name a few. An exceptional university with an exceptional history.
